XL Ventildeckelentlueftung - the measure against Oelsiff at the cylinder! - lowers the internal pressure of the cylinder head cover and relieves so the seal. - the cylinder head cover remains durably. Why a valve cover exhaust? The XL does not have their surname - x-oil - from approximate. A half generation of XL drivers strove itself to get to the continuous leakage at the cylinder head cover. Engine mounting plates up to the inserted Wollfaden, unscrewed from wondrous sealing compounds over, those hand times more, times less successful secret prescriptions. The main cause for the early failure of the sealing surface actually lies in a carelessness of hone since engineers which can be repaired easily: The internal pressure of the engine resulting from the piston movement is unsatisfactorily exhausted. The XL 500 has only a simple crank case exhaust. For the large differences of pressure, which a 500-ccm-Einzylindermotor produces, this construction is not sufficient however. A part of the pressure is led therefore across the open-loop system pit into the cylinder head. There it loads the sensitive sealing surface of the cylinder head cover - until this is finally proper blown through. Other comparably large Singles and Twins (begun with the successor XL 600, over the XT 500, XS 650, XT 600 up to Harley Davidson engines) have therefore an additional cylinder head exhaust - and remain drying. With the old width unit cent ventilation set you support the existing exhaust and relieve the seal of the cylinder head cover durably. The exhaust set is supplied alternatively as easily installing complete set (contains a radiated valve cover in the exchange) or as setset set (valve cover must be worked on).
